This class is an in depth, 12 week course, that will concentrate on 2 forms of the pentatonic scale in both major and minor, including the chords associated, for use with major and minor chords and keys as well as the blues.
Basic articulations such as hammer ons, pull offs, and slides will be discussed as well as bends. Focus will be placed on which notes to bend, and where and how to execute bends depending on the chord and scale.
Students will become proficient in switching scales, combining scales and chords, and moving around the neck.
Students will be exposed to the different registers of the guitar, as a place to explore when trying to generate riffs, basslines, hooks, catchy licks, rhythmic accompaniment, or chord/melody soloing. The course will use examples from rock and blues classics.
Students will gain a basic understanding of music theory, and relative major and minor relationships.
Students will be able to adapt and apply course materials immediately to their own playing styles, and find the theory useful for writing, learning songs, and soloing in funk, blues, rock and many other styles.
The lessons will be provided in installments, which each new lesson occurring every 2 weeks. Students can use the time during those two weeks digest the material, ask questions, receive feedback, and practice the concepts with "Jam Tracks" provided. Students may upload their assignments for each lesson at anytime. Questions may be asked about previous material at anytime.
The "13th" week of the course ( "the octave" ), is a wrap up and final project assignment. Upon successful completion, students will receive their certificate of completion.
